Job Description

The Production Manager position plans, directs, and coordinates the actions of team leaders to ensure the completion of production activities in a safe, quality-focused, and productive manner. This position oversees the manufacture of products against budgeted KPIs in a continuous improvement based environment. This plant leadership team member is responsible for coaching, mentoring, and developing team leads as well as line improvement coaches to deliver results in alignment with north star values.  

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The Production Manager position plans, directs, and coordinates the operations team while overseeing the completion of production processes and procedures. This includes maintaining a safe work environment, adhering to quality standards, and maximizing productivity.

Leads and develops Supervisors

  • Leads the team through an emphasis on both process and people
  • Communicates effectively with team members through both oral and written means
  • Directs team leads involved in the packaging and processing operations
  • Directs team members occupying plant leadership positions

Maintains a safe work environment

  • As a member of the leadership team, partners with SSW Manager to plan, develop, and implement operational safety and security programs and activities
  • Prepares or directs preparation of safety manuals related to operational procedures, equipment, and/or processes

Ensures quality-focused and food safe operations

  • Ensures team leads direct team member actions in a quality prioritized environment
  • Develops and implements solid troubleshooting procedures to correct product deviations
  • Manages team leads to collaborate with the quality lab in a way that improves overall food safety and quality performance

Ensures efficient production operations within the organization

  • Develops and implements leadership and operations improvement plans
  • Ensures and monitors operations process efficiency 
  • Uses metrics/data to evaluate and improve production and line operation procedures
  • Uses metrics/data to evaluate and improve plant leadership procedures
  • Inspects work equipment to detect defects or malfunctions as part of daily equipment care coaching, audits, and activities
  • Through the Daily Direction Setting (DDS) process, plans and establishes work schedules, assignments, and production sequences to meet performance standards 
  • Uses standard work processes to ensure repeatable performance
  • Monitors production, line operation, and leadership goals and levels to make sure they are consistent with performance standards
  • Collaborates with other managers to coordinate operations and activities within or between departments through the TIER process
  • Oversees the review of invoices, work orders, consumption reports, or demand forecasts to estimate peak delivery periods and to issue work assignments
  • Supports fiscal responsibility through the review and management of operational budget items

Role Contribution Level

This position is a Managerial role. The position requires the incumbent to directly manage team leads and members; delegate work and oversee task completion; promote safe and efficient operations; and establish a positive work environment with people working together collaboratively. He/she must value safety, quality, people, processes, continuous improvement ideology, managerial work, and demonstrate an ability to plan and direct operations. In addition, this manager must provide effective feedback, coaching, and mentorship to team members, including difficult messages as needed.

Education and Work Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree with 3+ years of experience in a production, plant, or operational supervision role, preferably in food processing. 
  • Non-degreed candidates will be reviewed on a case by case basis if they have equivalent experience.
